”BUTCH” ROUSSEL SELECTED AS STA 2018 DISTINGUISHED GRADUATE

Saint Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School and the Falcon Alumni Association are pleased to announce the selection of George “Butch” Roussel as the school’s 2018 Distinguished Graduate. Butch is a 2002 graduate of STA and a current resident of Lafayette.

Roussel is a clinical researcher with Vivo Research, LLC and the founder of The 24 Hour Citizen Project, a nonprofit organization which empowers citizens to pursue civic projects under the support of city officials and financial backers. Since its inception in 2014, the Project has funded $80K totaling 20 citizen-led projects.

He is a tutor for at-risk children in Lafayette, a community advocate, a TEDx speaker coach, and a spiritual advisor to a Haitian mission group called Mission Renew.

“My Catholic education taught me the importance of having a relationship with Jesus, the ultimate teacher,” said Roussel. “Through Him, we discover a foundation for a Christ-centered life. Those are lessons only discovered through faith.”

Roussel is elected as a trustee to the Louisiana Public Trust Financing Authority and is a member of the Leadership Institute of Acadiana. He was chosen as a TED speaker at TEDx Vermillion Street in 2015, and Social Media Day in 2017.

He will be honored at a Diocesan ceremony in Baton Rouge during Catholic School’s Week in January.
