Saint Thomas Aquinas Named Jostens 2017 National Yearbook Program of Excellence

STA program recognized five straight years for dynamic and engaging yearbook.

(HAMMOND) – (August/2017) – Jostens, the leading producer of yearbooks and student-created content, today announced that Saint Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School’s yearbook program has been named a 2017 Jostens’ National Yearbook Program of Excellence. The National Yearbook Program of Excellence recognizes engaging yearbooks that reflect a broad representation of the student body while helping students develop 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, and information and communication technologies (ICT) literacy.  

This is the fifth year that STA has received this national recognition. The STA award winning yearbook program is under the direction of Michelle Chauvin, yearbook adviser at Saint Thomas Aquinas.

Melanie Bouterie Kramer is returning to St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School as head coach for the Lady Falcons Basketball team, as well as in a new position as academic coordinator.

Will Hetzinger Scores 31 Composite on ACT

Junior Will Hetzinger is recognized by Academic Assistant Principal Alicia Oalmann McDaniel for his composite score of 31 on the ACT College Placement Test.  The Veritas ACT 30+ Award at STA is given to all students who receive a composite score of 30 or above on the ACT.  Will is the son of Michelle and Mark Trapen of Hammond and David Hetzinger of Port Vincent.

The St. Thomas Aquinas yearbook, Veritas, has been recognized for excellence and featured in the 2017 Jostens Look Book, celebrating the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and coverage. The Jostens Look Book is a collection of spreads and photos from outstanding yearbooks and their creative themes, cool covers, dazzling designs, relevant coverage, storytelling copy and action-packed photography. Along with design excellence, the annually published Look Book honors the important role well-crafted yearbooks play in helping schools chronicle the experiences, stories and achievements most relevant to students and that academic year.

Falcons Place in Four Events at State Rally

Three STA students placed in four events at the recent State Literary Rally.  Freshman Ethan Mixon won the Division III World Geography category. Senior Parker Amar placed 2nd in Spanish IV, as well as receiving a rating of “Excellent” in the Extemporaneous Speaking category which placed him among the top five students. Senior Aaron Mixon placed 4th in Advanced Math – Statistics. 

STA Students Experience Job Shadowing and Career Exploration

Juniors and seniors from Saint Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School participated in a two-day Job Shadowing / Career Exploration experience. Students chose one of two days in which to shadow a professional in a career field of their choice. In addition to the job shadow experience, the students also attended presentations on career choice, college planning, and financial planning, and had the opportunity to explore their personality traits through a Myers-Briggs type assessment.
