STA's Cheerleaders recently attended a Universal Cheerleaders Association camp in Panama City Beach, Fl., where they participated in workshops on game day training, pep rallies, and stunting techniques. They competed in the large varsity division and were named Game Day champions, as well as placing second in Cheer. They received the coveted Leadership Award, which is voted on by the approximately 25 other teams in attendance at the camp. Seniors Traci Carollo, Angie G'sell, Bailey Cavallero, Isabel Oliva, and Maci Collins were selected as All-American Cheerleaders.

Congratulations to sophomore Rachael White for her composite score of 31 on the ACT College Placement Test. The Veritas ACT 30+ Award at STA is given to all students who receive a composite score of 30 or above on the ACT. Rachael is the daughter of Cliff and Cherie White of Hammond.

The St. Thomas Aquinas yearbook, Veritas, has been recognized for excellence and featured in the 2017 Jostens Look Book, celebrating the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and coverage. The Jostens Look Book is a collection of spreads and photos from outstanding yearbooks and their creative themes, cool covers, dazzling designs, relevant coverage, storytelling copy and action-packed photography. Along with design excellence, the annually published Look Book honors the important role well-crafted yearbooks play in helping schools chronicle the experiences, stories and achievements most relevant to students and that academic year.

Three STA students placed in four events at the recent State Literary Rally. Freshman Ethan Mixon won the Division III World Geography category. Senior Parker Amar placed 2nd in Spanish IV, as well as receiving a rating of “Excellent” in the Extemporaneous Speaking category which placed him among the top five students. Senior Aaron Mixon placed 4th in Advanced Math – Statistics.

Senior Meghan Becerra signed a letter of intent to attend Mississippi College where she will run cross country and track for the Lady Choctaws. Mississippi College is a four-year college affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and located in Clinton, Mississippi.

Juniors and seniors from Saint Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School participated in a two-day Job Shadowing / Career Exploration experience. Students chose one of two days in which to shadow a professional in a career field of their choice. In addition to the job shadow experience, the students also attended presentations on career choice, college planning, and financial planning, and had the opportunity to explore their personality traits through a Myers-Briggs type assessment.
