Senior Josh Husser earns appointment to Air Force Academy

WASHINGTON – Congressman Ralph Abraham, M.D., R-Alto, announced Tuesday that St. Thomas Aquinas High School senior Joshua Husser of Husser, La., has earned an appointment to the Air Force Academy.

Husser will head to Colorado Springs in June. He plans to study Mechanical Engineering.

“I’ve always wanted to be in the military. The Air Force looks like the best fit for me. Everybody I’ve told has been really excited for me,” Husser said.

Dr. Abraham, a veteran and pilot himself, said he was proud that Husser will represent Louisiana and the 5th Congressional District at the Academy. He called Husser on Monday to tell him of his appointment.

“I’m so excited for Josh that he will be able to fulfill his dream of attending the Academy. He’s a model student and citizen. I know that he will represent his country, state and community well,” Dr. Abraham said.

Husser is a senior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Hammond. He is known as a well-rounded, accomplished student. He is the second student from St. Thomas Aquinas to earn an appointment to a military academy.

While in high school, Husser scored a 33 on his ACT. He’s the president of the 4-H Club, captain of the shooting team, and a member of Beta Club, the National Honor Society and the Quiz Bowl team.

“I knew deep down inside Josh would get appointed. He’s very diverse in what he’s able to do. Those things set Josh apart as an individual and young man, said principal Jose Becerra.
