STA Student Council Hosts “No Shave November” for Prostate Cancer Awareness

The STA Student Council is hosting a “No Shave November” and invites all community members to join in the fun. All proceeds raised during November will be donated to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center to benefit Prostate Cancer research.

Students will pay $15, which allows them not to shave or get haircuts from November 1-30. Additionally, all students will pay $2 on Thursday, November 19 in order to dress in light blue attire and accessories, the color of Prostate Cancer Awareness.  At the end of the day, there will be a Faculty vs. Students Basketball game.

“We take our competitions very seriously here,” said Principal Jose Becerra. “The faculty has lost the Teacher-Student Volleyball game in October for two years in a row now and they are determined to regain their crown!”

All males – whether student, faculty, family or community member – are asked to also sign up at school on Monday, November 2nd to be in the “No Shave November” contest. Each participant will have a “before” photo taken and at the end of the month will be judged in such categories as Scruffiest Beard, Best Goatee, The Abe Lincoln, and “everyone’s favorite handlebar mustache, the Dwain Tycer,” laughed Becerra.

“Just as we do in October with Pink Out activities, we are using fun and lightheartedness to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer in November,” said student body President Chloe Chauvin. “We all have loved ones who have suffered with cancer and it’s such a scary and serious disease. This just gives us all the chance to help out and hopefully lift the spirits of someone who is suffering and maybe needs a smile.”

What about the ladies? “We get more attention in October with breast cancer awareness,” added Chauvin.  “Our $15 donation allows us to wear colored socks in the month of November. No one wants to see the girls not shave!”

If there are any community members who would like to donate or to participate in the contest, contact Michelle Chauvin at STA:  985-542-7662 or mchauvin@stafalcons.org.
