STArlettes SHINE at Camp

The STA Starlettes recently completed the Universal Dance Association Dance Camp in Baton Rouge. The team won 1st place in the Home Routine competition, and also received a Superior Trophy for their accomplishments during the week, both of which earn them an automatic bid to UDA’s National Dance Team Championship in Orlando in late January.

The team also received the Leadership Award, which is the most coveted award at camp, and is selected by the camp participants.  Additionally, the team received the Drill Down Top Team Award and the “Team Full Out Award,” awarded by the UDA staff to the teams that did an exceptional job on their Team Routine choreography.  They were also awarded a Spirit Stick.

The Starlettes swept the Drill Down competition with junior Cailin Sampey receiving 2nd runner-up, senior Sydney St. Pierre as 1st runner-up, and junior Emily Owens winning as Drill Down Queen.

Five Starlettes were selected as All-American Dancers:  senior captains Skylar Compton, Isabella Perrilloux, and Sydney St. Pierre, as well as juniors Chloe Chauvin and Haileigh Bolton. The girls all received medals and the opportunity to dance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  The seniors also receive the opportunity to perform in the New Year’s Day Parade in London.

“I’d say it was a very rewarding week,” said Starlettes coach Beth Fagan. “We started day one on fire with confidence, and wanted to grow and improve as much as possible.  Each team meeting was filled with ways to better ourselves. I couldn’t be more proud of this team. We did receive first in home routine, and achieved our goal to win the Drill Down Award in both the team and individual competitions – we had the last three standing and 47 Drill Down ribbons! The team routine was great, and we were recognized with the Full Out Award. And who could forget our five All-Americans who stood out by far among the rest? But the best part was being voted by our peers for the Leadership Award. That is what this truly is about! We are on our way to a bright and starry future at STA!”

The Starlettes will resume practicing in August for football season.  The 2014-15 Starlettes are seniors Skylar Compton, Isabella Perrilloux, and Sydney St. Pierre; juniors Haileigh Bolton, Chloe Chauvin, Emily Owens, and Cailin Sampey; sophomore Nancy Donnes; and freshmen Madalynn Bouterie, Londyn Daniel, and Rachel Pistorius.
